Established in 2011, Sweet Readers is a 501(c)3 public charity, based in Manhattan and Brookline, MA. We connect trained middle school students and adults living with Alzheimer’s and their care partners in facilitated 5-, 6- and 9-session arts-based programs held during and after school in elder care centers, major museums, community centers and schools. For the 2020-21 school year, all of our programs will be held virtually, through zoom and broaden to include isolated adults both with and without cognitive impairment.
Our mission is to empower young people through training, experiential programs and communities of support to revitalize isolated adults in need and become catalysts for eldercare excellence.
Sweet Readers has partnered with 24 schools, 11 major museums and a network of over 200 eldercare centers. Our programs have served over 40,000 participants spanning three generations and bridging over 40 communities in three countries.
Manager of School Partnerships and Youth Empowerment (MSP)
Summary of Position:
Sweet Readers is looking for a seasoned, proven manager to be responsible for developing and managing school partnerships and after-school programs.
MSP will work directly with the Executive Director and collaborate with the growing SR team.
Duties & Essential Elements:
1. Relationship development & management;
2. Curricula development & training;
3. Program development, administration & tracking;
4. Impact evaluations & data communications;
5. Fundraising & media support.
Background/Education Required:
- Candidates must have at least three years of post-college professional work experience with middle and/or high schools, preferably with a college or graduate level degree in education or a concentration in education.
- Experience in the arts, healthcare and/or science a plus.
- We are looking for a creative, organized thinker who enjoys working with people and is comfortable working with Microsoft Office, Office 360 and the major social media platforms.
- A love of travel and the ability to travel locally, regionally and internationally for training, pilots and site visits.
Scope/Timing:

Eldercare Community Specialist (ECS)
Summary of Position:
The ECS will be responsible for developing and managing our eldercare partnerships; developing a community of geriatric care managers and care partners in order to sustain and grow our community of adults who come to our programs with their care partners; and developing an expertise in creative aging.

Background/Education Required:
- Candidates must have at least three years of post-college professional work experience in working with the elderly, preferably with Alzheimer’s and other forms of dementia, preferably with an LMSW.
- We are looking for an artist or someone with experience in art therapy and/or creative aging.
- We are looking for someone with who enjoys spending time with the elderly and is a people person with excellent communication and organizational skills and experience working with Microsoft Office, wordpress and Office 360;
- A love of travel and the ability to travel locally, domestically and internationally for training, pilots and site visits.

Technology Specialist
Summary of Position:
The Technology Specialist will be responsible for developing and maintaining efficient new systems to support our expanding organization; including setting up and maintaining an integrated CRM system and system(s) to manage, track, analyze and report on donors, partners, stakeholders, vendors and accounting. The Systems Specialist will also interface with our Accountants and Legal team on administrative matters and also be responsible for the management of the Sweet Readers web site.
Background/Education Required:
We are looking for a process, detail and solutions driven person for this position; someone with a creative, analytical mind who can, on the basis of present and forecasted needs, source and analyze technologies and systems, figure out how to best integrate and streamline the systems and user experience for the most meaningful reporting, seamless expansion and impactful results. This person should be adept at keeping track of details, following up expeditiously and executing well.
At least three years of professional experience in accounting, CRM, technologies and/or non-profit administration. Proven experience in project management.
Scope/Timing:
This position may be on a full-time basis or may start on a part-time, project basis with the intention to develop into a full time position. Start date immediately following a successful vetting process.

Communications Specialist
Summary of Position:
The Technology Specialist (TS) will be responsible for web site, internet, media, mailchimp and social media communications.
TS will develop materials, write grant proposals, the SR Newsletter, help with the SR Annual Report, keep the SR web site updated, interface with the Leadership Council to ensure the SR Social Media platform is accurate, updated weekly and flourishing. TS will work in collaboration with the full SR team.
Background/Education Required:
Candidates must have at least two years of professional, post college experience with creative and grant writing, expertise in Word press and Microsoft Word, twitter, Instagram and Facebook. We are looking for an excellent writer and communicator.
Scope/Timing:
This is a part-time position with both remote and on-site (Brookline, MA) time commitments with a start date immediately following a successful vetting process. Flexible hours and work location.

Public School Liaison (PSL)
Summary of Position:
Sweet Readers is looking for someone with extensive experience working with and/or within the New York City Public School System. We are looking for a patient, resourceful and creative people person who is also well organized and able to execute well.
The PSL will work closely with the MSP and will also interface with the Sweet Readers Leadership Council (select high school students).

Scope/Timing:
This is a part-time position which can be developed into a full time position over time. Start date is immediately following a successful vetting process.

Adult Participant Liaison (APL)
Summary of Position:
Sweet Readers is looking for a warm, people person who appreciates the elderly and is comfortable working with adults living with Alzheimer’s and their care partners. In this part time position (5-10 hours/week), APL will be responsible for communications with adult participants and their care partners to ensure the programs continue to run with meaningful impact.
While this is predominantly a scheduling, remote position with email and phone communications, the APL will also be conducting regular site visits and work collaboratively with the Manager of Eldercare Communities and Creative Aging.
Duties & Essential Elements:
1. Assisting in the vetting of new participants;
2. Scheduling programs and assisting with registration;
3. Site visits and relationship development;
4. Impact evaluations & data communications;
5. Fundraising & media support.
Background/Education Required:
- Candidates must be 21 years of age or older and reside in New York City.

We are looking for photographers to capture our programs in New York, Connecticut, Chicago, London and Toronto. Local Liaisons
Do you have 3-5 hours a week to help out? Then this could be a good option! Our Local Liaisons receive special training and the opportunity to participate directly in the program sessions.
Here’s what our Local Liaisons do:
- Send emails to participants 24 hours before each weekly program, reminding them of the program details,
- Stop by the program center early to ensure everything is in place,
- Observe the session and trouble shoot,
- Ensure everyone leaves the session safely,
- Report to Sweet Readers on the session details.
