Co-Founder. In Memoriam.
Dr. Fried, who co-founded Sweet Readers with her daughter and granddaughter, was a retired guidance counselor with her masters, bachelors and doctorate degrees in education from Hunter College; Columbia University’s Teacher’s College and New York University.
Dr. Fried was a devoted mother to five children (including three eagle scouts!) whom she often referred to as the fingers on her hand and served as a boy scout den mother while championing disadvantaged students from low income families and ensuring they had a chance to go to college and receive a great education.
Dr. Fried served at DeWitt Clinton High School in The Bronx, New York for 32 years before retiring. She was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s in her late 80’s and after relocating to Manhattan enjoyed pilates, tai chi, strong bones and live strong classes as well as Sweet Readers programs at The Metropolitan Museum of Art and the American Folk Art Museum.
As an educator, parent, grandparent and person living with AD, Mrs. Fried brought an invaluable perspective and inspiration to Sweet Readers.
