Investigation and Discovery

November 5, 2011

What a wonderful month this has been!  We trained nearly 100 new sweet readers and watched them shine in museums, schools and care facilities.  Every week we’re receiving more requests for our programs…we’re definitely at a tipping point and it feels great to see so much interest, especially from kids who want to have impact and make a difference in their young lives.  Our community is growing and I feel a palpable tremor in the ground.  We’re already having positive impact in many people’s lives and the possibilities for real change are exciting!

During a training session in Bethesda, it occurred to me that the investigative skills we are teaching kids to discover the person behind the mask of aging and AD are the same skills they use to discover other kids their age and not dissimilar to the method we teach them for investigating works of art, poetry and music.  It’s so easy to be limited by the surface.  But imagine all you may have discovered had you taken a pause and investigated a bit deeper.  Would you buy a house based only on the facade, without fully investigating the plumbing, HVAC systems and interior spaces?

As we move towards Thanksgiving, I challenge you to investigate one person you may have overlooked or dismissed more fully, question an assumption you may have made and make a positive discovery!
