During June, 2011, MoMA hosted the first Storytelling through Art Sweet Readers Pilot. The pilot was so successful, MoMA has agreed to host, in collaboration with the CV Starr adult day program, the first full Storytelling through Art full program this fall. The six sessions will be held from October, 2011 through December 2011 and include a school partner. The program will culminate with a intergenerational storytelling art project! Please see PROGRAMS for more details.
The MoMA Pilot: Storytelling through Art was a success!
Sweet Readers celebrates Faith Ringgold’s Peace Quilt exhibition at The Metropolitan Museum of Art
with The Art of The Craft workshop on September 18 and 25. Participants learned about quilting: the history and mechanics; then explored works of art with themes of family and community from The Met’s collections; then shared their own stories of family and community. The connections led to collaborative poetry quilts which were then put together to form a community poetry quilt. A heartwarming success! Families from both generations came together to share the connections made, perceptions changed and to witness the empowerment people from all generations felt. The Met Studios were filled with three generations coming together!
Sweet Readers expands to DC Metro with the innovative program: The Art & Poetry of Music!

This program integrates art, poetry and music in an interactive and innovative new program! Please see PROGRAMS for more details.
